eBay This is a hand written in Latin on vellum official document from the period of Queen Elizabeth I of England. I cannot see an actual year written as they didn’t do that back then, they often wrote that it was written in the so many years of the reign of the Monarch. But I cannot see that either and its fairly faded written in really nice calligraphy and in Latin to make matters worse. It relates to NORTH YORKSHIRE though for sure. I can see the words start with Omnibus and then other words I can make out are Danby de Thorpirro in County Ebor _ _ et Thomas Danby and it carries on. These names are throughout the document. This name Thorpirro in todays wording is Thorp Perrow, near Bedale in North Yorkshire. At the very bottom are two WAX SEALS with impressions on a square chunky lump of wax attached between the vellum as normal. The one on the left has the Livery Crest of the DANBY family which is a CRAB erect. It has a signature here too which you can see says Danby. The other seal is a strange SNAKE like devices in a circular design on a seal which is 6 sided. The name Thomas can be seen next to it. The vellum document has been repaired in the past and you can see this better from the back at the left hand side. The back as usual has two areas of hand writing but again I cannot make nor tail of this wording. The Danby ( can be spelt DANBIE as in the place of Danbie ) family did live at Thorp Perrow during this period as well as being related to the families at Farnley Hall Leeds, Swinton near Masham as well. If you google this period for Thomas Danby you find a gentleman born in 1531 and died in 1590, he was the son of Christopher Danby ( who was in Thorp Perrow in 1503 ) and Elizabeth ( Neville ) Danby. This Thomas Danby married Lady Mary Neville, daughter of Ralph Neville, 4th Earl of Westmorland . Thomas was Sheriff of Yorkshire 1576/7. They had one son called Thomas Danby Esq. and he married Elizabeth Wentworth Be assured this is a GENUINE ANTIQUE and not a modern reproduction. It is 15 and half inch long x 7 inch wide. The seals are attached to the cut velum and hang about 2 and half inch down. The seals are blocks of wax and these are about 3/4 inch x 1/2 inch x 1 inch. My stock ref: in Yorkshire documents tin.
