A rarely found GE SSB Super Base model 3-5875A CB base station in excellent cosmetic condition that powers on, receives and appears to transmit. I was able to get a radio check on the transmitter and was told that it had a humming in the background, this issue was troubleshooted and when the plug on the Astatic mic was readjusted the humming stopped. After this I was told that this radio sounded excellent. This unit is from the lifetime estate collection of a CB and HAM operator that includes more than 40 base station radios and dozens of parts boxes. Most of these items will be listed soon. This radio works but it has issues that will need to be resolved. The first notable issue is that the LCD channel selector display is failing, there are occasionally partial numerals that are shown on the screen. This does not affect the operation of the radio performance itself but it can be annoying. The second issue that should be dealt with is that the main capacitor has leaked a small amount of electrolyte onto the bottom of the main circuit board, this is something that almost all GE Superbase radios are plagued with. This will have to be cleaned off and the capacitor replaced. The switch also is sensitive, sometimes the front mode switches will not be fully engaged and the radio will not work at all, to fix this, flip the mode switches on and off, one of three being reset will get it to work. There is a three way switch on the rear panel of this unit that does not appear to be original, this is how it was found and the purpose is unknown. In the photos there are pictures of where the switch appears to be wired to. Overall this unit is in much better condition than you usually find these, it has the problems that they all have, but these issues have been caught in an early stage. The circuit board corrosion along with other views of the boards are in the photos. The cosmetic condition of this radio is extremely fine, and approaches mint condition other than a small crack in the plastic gauge cover. This is detailed in the photos along with the rest of the external views, in which the radio looks almost new. This radio is considered to be one of the top 3 best fully transistorized CB transceivers of all time to this day, and according to many of the top CB experts in the country has the best solid state receiver ever made. This makes recapping this clean GE Superbase a worthwhile investment, as this is recommended even though it can be used as is. I have tested the receiver on this radio and can confirm that it is excellent. Due to the age of this unit and parts swappers, I am selling this as a collectible item only even though it appears to work. I will not accept returns on this item for functional problems beyond what is described in the listing. This radio comes with an Astatic D104 Amplified microphone that is confirmed to work to get you talking right away. This item will be sent in a well padded box and insured to protect against any potential damage during shipping.
