This is a full-sized, ready-to-cut and sew PAPER pattern for an amazing vintage costume that was originally printed in 1930. The pattern is for a Louis XVI era (Marie Antoinette) gown. The gown features a bodice with princess seams and short sleeves trimmed with long lace flounces. The voluminous skirt is made up of multiple panels and scalloped flounces worn over a hoop skirt. The hoop skirt pattern is included and gets its shape from several yards of featherbone. Rather have a PDF pattern? Find that at our website. The pattern does not include a petticoat for underneath the gown but we do suggest adding one for a complete ensemble. A free embroidery/ beading motif is included if you wish to bead or embroider any aspect of the gown. This style was popularized by style icon Marjorie Post when she wore a custom Marie Antoinette costume to a fancy dress party in 1927. McCall followed the growing trend by releasing a costume pattern for the home seamstress in 1929-1930. SIZE: MULTI-SIZE. Bust: 32 – 34 – 36 – 38 – 40 – 42 – 44 – 46 Hip: 35 – 37 – 39 – 41 – 43 – 45 – 47 – 49. A note on fabric suggestions: You can choose the affordable option with a stunning cotton print that looks like a rich brocade or damask, or you can go all out and get good medium-weight silk. Were I to make this for myself, I would try to copy the illustration as exactly as possible but instead of silk stain, I would use a cotton sateen to make it more comfortable, and affordable.
